I was recently asked in an interview What is Steampunk? I rambled on a bit and do not feel like I did the genre justice.
As we rapidly approach the August 20 release date of my first Steampunk novel I attempt to do a more thorough job of explaining what the genre is in a blog post.
Just finished a fun writing prompt I thought I would share: You were born to be a villain, but you find yourself leaning more and more towards the good as you get older.
The article I wrote for Talking Glass Magazine came out today. It chronicles technological advancements during humanity's darkest hours over the last 700 years, from the birth of the perfume industry during the Bubonic Plague to the first portable x-ray machines built by Marie Curie during the First World War.

Current events surrounding the Black Lives Matter have sent me down a rabbit hole, not because I have ever experienced any sort of discrimination in my life. I am a middle class white male living in the United States; I am a priveledged person in this world. Or as I perfer to frame it, I am lucky that the circumstances of my birth never put me at a disadvantage.
But when I was a teenager, I was a hoodlum and experienced brutality at the hands of the police. I quickly learned this is how the African-American community experiences the police in this country, regardless of whether they are crooks or not. Now as I watch thousands of white Americans join the BLM protests and be incarcerated and brutalized by the police in response, much more of the white community is experiencing what happens first hand.

I dug an oldie but goodie out of the vaults this week. The Strange Tale of Dr. Max Zoelegger is a rambling collection of short stories I have been working on for years. They are fun to read (and to write), and definitely a bit odd. Anyway, the last time I worked on these stories, I wrote several chapters from a first person point of view.
I added part of one story to this website. I will add a bit more as I dig then up and dust them off.

For National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) this past November I decided to write a fresh, new draft of The Patron Saint of Luchadores. I had a lot of fun with this draft, breaking out the fountain pens and making a point of writing many magical realism short stories and tangents that fold into the main plotline.
